Hate to double post, But I'm realy confused as to why you'd Brase the roof back on, I mean (with all dew respect) shurely brasing is the metal version of gluing as apposed to fusion there for replasing the strength the roof origionaly had by cutting & fusing back together. Or is the brase hiding something more substantial????


Am I missing the grand design Here?

Brazing the points where the pillars are is actually stronger than welding them, if you look all the gutters are spot welded, but the corners are brazed. all 4 brazed joints overlap around 1" with a panel underneath them. When you braze you get what is called a "capillary action" effect where the molten brass is sucked up into the joint causing it all to bond over a large surface area, its standard practice to braze large overlapping joints in roof panels this way.

So a 1" deep pillar size brazing lap joint is 100's times stronger than a few 6mm spot welds.

I've got to amit your doing the dogs dangys of a job there very thorough, Just out of curiosity why didnt you put a carbon fiber roof on it ?? keep up the good work mate :wink:

I can get, carbon or kevlar or fibreglass, doors, bonnet, tailgate, bumpers or front wings but noone has made a roof yet. In anycase I had the last solid roof panel in Lancia's stock from Italy, so sorry grale guys no more roofs I had the last one ;)

Random trivia: some after market carbon fibre bonnets for skylines are heavier than the alluminium originals.

How do you bond a carbon fibre roof to a steel shell anyway, can somone explain it in basic terms?

Well I don't think it would be easy to get it right with strength. I guess our Monkey man here that doesnt know a brazed lapjoint is infinately stronger than a couple of spot welds. Seen as though its his suggestion maybe he might enlighten us with his infinate wisdom lol

Your absolutely right, I don't have a fucking clue when it comes to CARS, WELDING, FABRICATION nor any experience in the matter :bow: & the carbon thing was said in jest by the way :|
